Purcell School

There is a long standing and unique connection between the Samuel Gardner Memorial Trust and the Purcell School. Our namesake lived in Harrow-on-the-Hill, north west London, where the school was based during the 1980s and 1990s, and had strong connections with his son, Arthur Gardner. As one of the country’s specialist music schools, the Purcell School works with nearly 200 young musicians each year, aged 11-18. For many years the Trust has supported the school’s Bursary Fund with recipients receiving instrumental lessons, ensemble playing and performance opportunities as well as the ability to develop the skills, confidence and perspective needed to enjoy a long and successful career alongside their academic studies.

Arthur Gardner scholars have gone to study at conservatoires, won prizes such as the Royal Overseas-League Piano Competition, and held positions in the National Youth Orchestra, often proceeding to careers in professional orchestras.

The support we give represents a third of our annual giving and is the only educational institution that we support on an ongoing basis.
